Snowie Backgammon
Snowie is a high quality backgammon program. It is based on a proprietary neural network technology that has been taught to play as good as or better than the most excellent human players.
Snowie 1 to Snowie 3 used a particular learning technique parallel to the TD learning algorithm published by G. Tesauro. Snowie 4 however, is based on a fresh type of learning algorithm that permitted it to play a lot stronger than the earlier version.
We believe that Snowie 4 is stronger than the most excellent human player. Almost immediately, there will be an extraordinary version of Snowie playing on True Money games for cash.
The publicizing of Snowie 4 was probably to strengthen our understanding of the starting rolls and verify the moves that Snowie 3 had suggested. But a very odd thing has happened – Snowie 4 has altered the suggestion for no less than 4 of the starting rolls.
For 21 it recommends 13/11, 6/5 in its place of 13/11, 24/23; for 52 13/8, 24/22 not 13/8, 13/11; 43 is played 13/9, 13/10 not 24/20, 13/10 and with 64 it replaces 24/14 with 24/18, 13/9.
With the exclusion of 52 these choices all contain a general theme and unstacking heavy points as soon as possible.
The moves chosen are as well possibly to lead to much more difficult and exciting games than Snowie 3’s recommendations.
