Learn Backgammon Rules

Overview : Backgammon is a two-player board game with pieces called checkers. The object of the game is to be the first to move all your checkers off the table.

How to play :

On your turn, roll the dice to find out how many spaces you may move your checkers. Each die rolled represents how many spaces you may move one checker. You may move a single checker twice or move two different checkers. If you roll doubles (the same number on each die), you get twice the number of moves.

You may move your checker to any point that does not have two or more of your opponent’s checkers on it. If you land on just one of your opponent’s checkers, your opponent must place that checker on the bar, and it must start over in your home board.

Moving your checkers off the table is called bearing off. You may bear off after all your checkers are in your home board. When bearing off, you must move exactly the number shown on a die if you can. However, if all of your checkers are in your home board and all of them need a lower number than what you rolled, you may bear off one checker for each die.

Score and Doubling :

Backgammon is played for one point per game. However, it can be agreed during the game to double the point value that the game is worth. At the start of his or her own turn, a player may request to double the points. If the opponent refuses the offer, the opponent concedes that game.

Gammons & Backgammons :

If a player loses but has borne off at least one checker, the winner receives the number of points shown on the doubling cube.If the losing player has not borne off any checkers, it is called a gammon.

In that case, the winner receives twice the value shown on the doubling cube.

If the losing player has not borne off any checkers, it is called a gammon. In that case, the winner receives twice the value shown on the doubling cube.

Ways to Move a Checker :

The most straight forward way to move a check is to pick it up and move it to where you would like it to go, within reason of course. You do this by left clicking and dragging the checker.
