Backgammon checkers

Backgammon checkers are the important accessories in the Backgammon game. Normally, Backgammon set consists of a total of 30 checkers. There are 15 checkers each of two colors. Traditionally, one set is tan and the other is brown. The checkers are made of wood, plastic, fiber, marble, metal etc. in different shapes and different colors to suit the taste of the buyer. Metal checkers are used in magnetic boards, to enable to play the game while traveling.

The moving of checkers is more important task in playing Backgammon. Backgammon checkers never move backwards; they only move forwards towards their respective inner boards, meaning the white and black checkers are always moving in opposite directions around the backgammon board. Checkers are moved according to the role of the dice, with each individual number on each die representing the number of points a chosen checker may be moved forward.

During a move, a checker may land on any vacant point, a point occupied by friendly checkers, or a point with only one enemy checker. Two or more checkers of the same color occupying a point constitutes a block, a very useful tactic when playing backgammon and setting up a backgammon prime. If the individual moves of 6 points and 4 points are blocked by two or more of your opponent’s checkers, a total move of 10 points cannot be made by that checker. When play is blocked and you can make no legal move, your turn is forfeited. However, during your turn, you can play both dice or one die if only one legal move can be made. Likewise, you learn to make strategic moves of checkers which will bring success.
